Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand (Memorial to German Resistance) - Berlin Hotels .com

Memorial to German Resistance
On July 20, 1944, resistance fighters detonated a bomb in the offices of the high command of the Nazi regime, attempting to kill Adolph Hitler and accomplish a coup d'etat. Hitler survived, the coup failed, and the resistance leaders were executed the same day in the courtyard of the offices in the Bendler Block. The Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand (Memorial to German Resistance) marks the location of those events.

The ground floor, the courtyard where the execution took place, is preserved as a memorial. On the second floor is a series of rooms in which more than 5,000 documents and images describe the history of the resistance and its prominent members. For more context on the impact and history of the Third Reich, visitors may also want to visit Topography of Terror, Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas (Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe), and the Neue Wache.
