Berlin Zoological Garden
Upon entering through the Elephant Gate on Budapester Strasse or through the Lion Gate on Hardenbergplatz, visitors can experience an environment unlike any other in Berlin. Located in the Berlin Tiergarten in the city center, the Zoologischer Garten Berlin (Berlin Zoological Garden) attracts 2.6 million visitors each year to see the world's largest number of animal species.

Built in 1844, the zoo is one of the world's oldest of its kind, with classic architecture that reveals some of the site's long history. Today, most of the zoo's 1500 species roam free in installations that resemble their natural habitats. Highlights of the zoo are the giant pandas and Knut the polar bear, born in 2006 (the first polar bear born in the zoo in more than 30 years). The playground and petting zoo at the Children's Zoo are a hit with kids. For a discount rate, visitor can even purchase combination tickets for the zoo and the aquarium, which is located just beyond the Elephant Gate.

The zoo is open daily, from 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. March 15 through October 14; 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. October 15 through March 14.
