Brandenburg Gate - Berlin Hotels .com
Although the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) was commissioned by Friedrich Wilhelm II as a gesture of peace, this landmark of Berlin came to represent a lack of freedom for decades when it was incorporated into the Berlin Wall. Completely unchanged since its construction in 1791, the gate now stands as a symbol of Germany's reunification. Consisting of 12 Doric columns, the Brandenburg Gate stands out from other city gates with its statue, the Quadriga, which depicts the goddess of victory driving a four-horse-drawn chariot.
Located at the end of Unter den Linden, the city's most famous street and the historic boulevard leading to the royal residence, this central Berlin site is not far from the Reichstag.
