Perhaps one of Berlin's most beautiful venues for music, theater, musicals, and operettas, the Theater des Westens in the Charlottenburg area has been attracting audiences and admirers since 1896.

The Theater des Westens boasts a stage that for more than 100 years has been graced by world-famous stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker, Hildegard Knef, Enrico Caruso, and Maria Callas. Designed by Bernhard Sehring, the architecture has undergone several renovations since the 1960s but has retained its nineteenth century grandeur.

Visitors can also enjoy the theater's elegant garden, two bars, cafeteria, emperor's staircase, elaborately decorated neo-Baroque walls and ceilings, and exhibited art ranging from antiquity to contemporary works.

Before settling into its current permanent home, the Deutsche Oper Berlin company performed regularly at the Theater des Westens, and the theater continues to present some of the city's best large-scale musical, theater, and operetta productions.
