Komische Oper Berlin
Built in 1892, the Komische Oper Berlin in the district is renowned for its world-class performances, beautiful stage, and productions sung completely in German. On par with Berlin's other top opera houses, Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper is a favorite venue for seeing operas, operettas, musicals, symphony concerts, and ballets by the Komische Oper's resident BerlinBallett company and the Staatsballett.

The resident opera company Komische Oper is well known for its avant-garde productions, especially with the innovative work of the former director Harry Kupfer, and for performances by the company's star countertenor Jochen Kowalski. Additionally, the Komische Oper Berlin offers film screenings of movie classics, innovative children's programming, and behind-the-scenes guided tours.

The building's exterior was redesigned in 1965 and the theater sports a new state-of-the-art sound system, but the interior has retained its nineteenth century elegance and many visitors come just to see the large curving balconies and sumptuous decor.
