Kreuzberg - Berlin Hotels .com
Just south of
Mitte is Kreuzberg, where you should head if you're looking for exciting nightlife and alternative urban adventure. Formerly cornered by the Berlin Wall, the neighborhood has a history of being populated by a more "edgy" crowd. Today, it is home to the largest concentration of Turkish immigrants in Germany, as well as an eclectic mix of punks, anarchists, students, hippies, and young urbanites -- making for plenty of great people watching.
Visitors looking for exciting nightlife and restaurants should head to one of two main streets: Edgy alternative clubs offer plenty of adventure in Oranienstraße, while gay venues and great live music abound in the slightly more polished Bergmannstrasse/Mehringdamm area. During the day, spend your time people-watching, enjoy a leisurely meal at a cafe on the Landwehrkanal, or visit one of two historic museums: the House at Checkpoint Charlie, or the Jewish Museum.
